Guest interview with Author Katrina Hart

What did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was little I wanted to be a hairdresser or a vet and do anything with animals. I also wanted to be an agony auntie like in the magazines and help people with their troubles.

What is your favorite genre and what drew you to it?

Historical Romance because for me there is something magical about feeling like you’re living in the past, where things were so much different.

Fantasy because the sky is the limit you can go anywhere do anything and see magical and wonderful things that push ones imagination to the brink. I think it’s why I really enjoy writing fantasy because I have a wild imagination and with that comes the chance to go to lands far away, for me there is nothing more magical than that…

When did you start writing in a professional way?

I started really getting into my writing after taking an online course a few years back at: http://www.writingclasses.co.uk/ the course helped me to get my stories out of my mind and onto the page. It really inspired me to keep writing and working on my books

Do you have a specific writing method or ritual? How many hours do you devote to writing every day?

I’m very much a night writer. I could write all night if my eyes would let me and I try and fit in some writing most nights with all my candles lit and music playing in my headphones, until I can’t possibly write anymore.

What part of writing do you enjoy most?

First drafts, there is nothing like just sitting and going into your own worlds, while you write away. Nothing has to be perfect, it’ is just a time to connect with ones story and characters.

How do you develop your characters?

I normally let my characters go where they want to go. And I follow asking question along the way, as I get to know them. I’m a discovery writer so I discover as I go.

Which of the characters in any of your books mean the most to you and why?

Wow this is a real hard one for me because all my characters mean a lot to me in different ways. But if I had to choose one who stuck with me a lot lately it would be Missy Talk A Lot from my book Finding Destiny, because she has many sides to her and has been through a lot but has a sweet heart underneath.

Finding-Destiny lr

What are your aspirations as a writer and where do you see yourself in five years time?

I want to write more and more books because writing fills me with happiness and adventure. In five years I’m not sure hoping to still be writing and enjoying every moment of it…

Which author has influenced your writing most?

I don’t think there is one author that influenced my writing most. I read a lot so I’m sure that lots of authors inspired me, such as Ciara Gold, Beatrix Potter, Jane Austen and new authors like Kendra Olson, Ruth Hunt, Kshitij, Anne Hamilton and yourself and many more.

If you could go back in time and rewrite a known work of fiction, which would it be? Would you change the end? What would your alternative be?

Romeo and Juliet because the end is so tragic. I would change it so they both found each other and ran off together.

What would you like to say to your readers?

I would say to all my reader’s. Thank-you for reading my novel.. I love to hear your thoughts. And I hope that the characters captivate you through their journey. As much as they have me while writing their adventures.

Fun facts:

A colour- Pink

A day of the year-February 14th

A favourite recipe- Apple crumble.

A movie-Before Sunrise

A song-My Love, Little Texas

A quote- Toni Morrison. Toni said  “If there’s a book you really want to read but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.”

  1. A wonderful and inspiring interview for fellow authors. I agree there is no limit when it comes to writing fantasy. I’ll recommend Finding Destiny to readers of all age group and genre. Its an epic fantasy novel.
